Ray Marchetti started sanding floors out of a Dandenong garage in 1974 — houses, shops, church halls, whatever came up. His sons, Dean and Luke, grew up on the end of an edger, and by the late nineties they'd noticed something: the sports floors were the jobs everyone else was getting wrong.
Courts were being coated in domestic finishes that went slippery under sweat. Lines were being painted on top instead of sealed under. Schools were being told they needed a full sand when what the floor actually needed was one screen and two coats.
So in 1998 they stopped taking domestic work altogether and Elite Sports Floor Care became a sports-floor-only business. Nearly three decades on, it's still family-run, still Victorian, and still the same answer to the same question: what does this floor actually need?
